Photo Fridays – Sea Sighed

Sombrio Giants

Sombrio Giants

The beauty and majesty of this world I am surrounded by continually amazes me. This is Sombrio Beach, less than an hour north by car. Below is Witty’s Lagoon, within walking distance. Think I’ll go for another walk soon.

Great weekend to all and get out and enjoy your world if you can!

Tuesday Tales – Summer’s End

Summer's End

Summer’s End

As we cherish the last few days of summer, there is a crispness in the air that brings on feelings of nostalgia for times gone by.

This piece was created for my first solo show, In Her Eyes, and I talked about doing the photo shoot that produced this image in the lead-up to the show. As I look at it now, I am reminded of the tremendous fun and feelings of empowerment that the shoot engendered. More than that, I am reminded of a  friend that I cherish and, hopefully, honour with this piece. The title of the piece was inspired by this Foo Fighters song of the same name. It has that same feeling of nostalgia and remembrance.

That first solo show was over four years ago and it’s been over three years since my last one.  Perhaps it’s time to think about doing another.

Summer’s End, an 8″x10″ photopolymer gravure etching on 15″x20″ paper, is offered this week at $250.

Photo Fridays – Gabriola Sunset

sunset shadows

sunset shadows

Sunset is my favorite time to shoot. Shadows are long, sunbursts are magical, backlighting creates powerful contrasts and colors are rich and warm. No wonder it’s called the golden hour.

As promised here are some pics from Gabriola Island, taken at sunset, on a gloriously hot summer day. Enjoy and have a great weekend in the sunshine!

Photo Fridays – Blooms in Blue

Gabriola Morning

Gabriola Morning

Last weekend I went up to Gabriola Island for a wedding. While having breakfast I couldn’t help but photograph these luscious hydrangea blooms that were spilling out onto the ground in a riot of blueness!

More pics of these blooms and our scrumptious breakfast here.

Pics of a gorgeous Gabriola sunset to follow.

Great weekend to all!

Photo Fridays – Reflected Rocks

Wharariki Beach

Wharariki Beach

The most beautiful beach in the world is this one I came across on my trip to New Zealand earlier this year. It is Wharariki Beach on the northwestern tip of the south island. A hidden gem reached by a twenty minute walk from the closest car park, it is an unspoiled, vast, breathtaking piece of heaven on earth. It’s remoteness and unsuitability for swimming due to strong currents guarntees it will remain so for a long time, at least I hope. It took several hours just to walk its length (mostly due to photo stops), and if I had had more time I would have happily camped nearby just to be there in the evening to see the setting sun. And I’m not a camper!

the short hike to the beach was through lovely rolling hills with grazing sheep. As we got closer to the beach the sand began to fill up the path and then we crested a giant sand hill and got our first view of the expansive beach. Stunning! Long, long expanse of beach with huge rock formations all along the way.

At several points we can across seals, even a colony of baby seals frolicking in a shallow, protected pool.

Wading in the shallow water at low tide was a dream as was soaking up the sun on the enormous sand dunes. The day was beautifully warm and sunny the entire time, one of the rare totally sunny days of our trip. We spent the better part of the day there, leaving as the sun was just starting to set for we had a long drive back to where we were staying. We managed to get some close-up sheep shots when we left despite how skittish they were.

Photo Fridays – Hats, Hats, Hats!

Italian Hats

Roman Holiday

Do you ever feel like you’re wearing too many hats?

These days I feel like I’m juggling so many projects and everything on my to do list takes twice as long to complete as expected. Being sick with a bad cold all week hasn’t helped. Although it did allow me time to play Portal 2 all the way through again. Except for the final battle, can never beat Weasley on the final battle!

Anyway, wishing you all a lovely weekend, with the only hat needed one of these lovely sunhats! Ciao for now!
